My graduate experience at the DTA was an invaluable start to my career in the public service.

When all the pieces click and fall into place, and you’re left with this pretty image that tells a meaningful story. The satisfaction you get after fighting with code all day and then it works is hard to beat.

The program really set me up straight out of uni and made my transition out of uni and into the workforce seamless. Since commencing in the program, it has been amazing in shaping my career direction with the Queensland Government.

Without a doubt, the most fascinating aspect of my job is working on matters with national significance. It’s incredibly rewarding working on or having responsibility for a project that may appear in the news or which is going to really benefit members of the Australian community.

The coolest thing about my job is knowing that the reports and analysis that I do can impact the decisions made by the investment team, resulting in trades and transactions to alter our portfolios.

Elise Connor studied Bachelor of Nursing in 2021, and is now an adviser at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C).

The Policy Futures team has been fantastic in facilitating my career direction and placed me with teams where I get to work on the type of policy that makes a lasting difference to those facing disadvantage.

I’m looking forward to using the skills and experiences I’ve had at DFAT so far to support my fellow Australians.
