The Inspector-General of Taxation and Taxation Ombudsman (IGTO) is an independent Officer appointed by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia to lead an important free service to assist the Australian community with the tax system. They seek to improve taxation administration and help taxpayers with complaints about the administrative actions of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB). They are completely independent of the ATO and the TPB.

Their services are free to all taxpayers – unrepresented individuals, tax practitioners, directors and businesses, whether directly or through their representatives.
The first three steps in the IGTO graduate recruitment process include
1. Written pitch against the duty statement - up to 1 page.
2. CV.
3. Academic transcript.
Shortlisting will occur at this point and applicants who have been shortlisted for an interview will be asked to attend a virtual interview.
4. Attend virtual zoom interview for up to 40 minutes. Approx 6 questions will be asked by two-panel members.
5. Written and verbal skills will also be tested at the virtual zoom interview.
After the interview, the panel will consider the ranking of all applicants. The successful applicant(s) will be notified and asked to complete pre-employment security screening and the Australian Government Vetting Service application.
6. Successful applicants complete a letter of acceptance and commence vetting requirements.
7. Unsuccessful applicants notified and can request feedback.
8. Start date commences once pre-employment security screening is complete and at the mutually agreed time.
9. Employment commences and is subject to a six month probation period.
