What was the best thing about being on the Queensland Government Digital Graduate program?

Being a part of a big cohort of peers who are experiencing the same thing as yourself. Being provided additional training opportunities to upskill and grow professionally and building a network. 

What classification did you achieve (ie. AO4 etc.) post program?

AO5 post the graduate program and three years since completion I am now at the AO6 classification.

Do you think the program helped to speed up your career?

Yes, as a Digital graduate, you are afforded additional training opportunities and mentorship. The agencies look at you as an investment and will facilitate career growth. 

What's your job about?

In my current role as a Senior Project Officer, I am setting up the Program Support Office for a new ICT Program of work. My team provides program level support with onboarding, offboarding, recruitment, workforce maintenance, finance and governance to all project teams under the program. 

What's your background?

I studied a Bachelor of Laws/Business (HR). 

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Absolutely, there is no qualification or degree required to become a Project Officer. I never considered becoming a Project Officer when I was studying however, the ICT Graduate program has given me the opportunity to find this career path where I enjoy my work.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student... 

  1. Start applying for jobs during your final year. Do not wait until you have graduated.
  2. Have fun and ensure you have work-life/Study-life balance.
  3. It is okay to not know what you want to do when you graduate. Sometimes you just got to toss your hat in the ring for opportunities that may be different to what you expect.
