Luke

My DFAT graduate role has been my dream opportunity. I get to balance my skills in data analytics with my passion for foreign policy.

After studying both Economics and Political Science at uni, Luke inspired me to seek a role where he could bring data analysis and foreign policy together.

“As a Data graduate in DFAT’s 2022 cohort, I’ve applied my data analytics skills in practical ways to inform foreign policy, including through my work with DFAT’s Cyber Security team.

“In that role, I’ve seen how the analysis of large data sets is used to inform understanding and approaches for Australia to navigate the changing cyber environment and respond to cyber threats,” Luke said.

Since joining us in February, Luke says he’s had unique and interesting opportunities outside of his day-to-day, including training in diplomatic writing and crisis management.

“One of the best things about DFAT’s graduate program is the range of work on offer. Each area of the department is unique which means you learn new things all the time and can diversify your skills.”

“So far, my DFAT graduate role has been my dream opportunity. I get to balance my skills in data analytics with my passion for foreign policy and I’m excited to see where else the program will take me.”
