The formal training has been mixed. The face to face training has been good, but the online training has been ordinary. The on the job learning has been good, and it has allowed me to learn managerial skills, as well as general business analysis.

Lack of formal training specific to business unit/area
Graduate, Melbourne - 20 Dec 2015
I have picked up a lot of soft skills. But I will mention only one here. The most important skill I have learned is to read and understand the people I work with and flex and adapt to the environment.
Graduate, Perth - 18 Dec 2015
The training that was made available to me at CSC was definitely one of the biggest strengths of the organisation. The online training resources covered a wide range of areas that were not only relevant to CSC but to the workforce in general. There were many certification courses that were accessible by any employee. Although the formal resources were good, it was the informal training that I valued the most. I was always given advice from my supervisors about how I should approach certain tasks and was taught tips and tricks that I could use throughout my professional career. The informal training was extremely well done.

We also have weekly graduate training programs that are facilitated by HR. These are really beneficial in developing everyday professional skills.

There is a lack in formal training

Up to 30 separate training events throughout the year, a Graduate Certificate of Public Administration at the Australia and New Zealand School of Governance, an Industry Tour related to that. All of my skills have skyrocketed due to experience and training.

Training is modelled around core public service skills and includes presentation skills, writing, budget management and procurement. There are fewer opportunities for formal training specific to your job type once you are settled into a role outside the graduate program. There could be more targeted and valuable training programs.
Midlevel, Canberra - 13 Jul 2015
Could be better targeted to address the actual problems we encounter in our day to day work (e.g. using departmental systems properly).
Entry level, Canberra - 13 Jul 2015
I generally don't attend training provided in-house because I work as a specialist. The Department does get a lot of good guest speakers to provide seminars.
